GLPCC Water System Overview
October 2, 2020
Goss Lake Park Community Club (GLPCC) is a Group A Water System that serves a residential community of 156 connections. The system draws source water from two wells. Current system is operating at 70 gpm. The treated water is stored in a 120,000 gallon reservoir located next to the pump house.
There are two pressure zones in the existing distribution system: a lower gravity zone and an upper pressurized zone. The gravity zone is supplied water directly from the reservoir. The upper pressurized zone in the system is served by two booster pumps and three pressure tanks. A propane generator supplies back-up electricity to operate the booster pumps in case of a power outage.
The source ground water has naturally occurring concentrations of arsenic, iron and manganese. The new treatment system consists of injecting potassium permanganate to oxidize manganese and ferric chloride to supplement the iron in the raw well water to oxidize arsenic. The chemically treated water is mixed in two contact tanks followed by filtration through three Greensand Plus media filter tanks. Filter tanks are periodically backwashed to clean out filtered waste.
